One of the reasons I haven’t been posting much lately

2019 May 9

Here is one of the reasons why I haven’t been posting bug or plant pictures lately. As of May 1, 2019[1], it looked like this outside:

May.day.snow

While that melted within a couple of days, it never really got warm. And as of today, (May 9), it looks like this:

May.9.snow

As you might imagine, the insects are not responding well to this. In the last week, I’ve seen a couple of March Flies, and a Click Beetle, and a Tricolored Bumblebee, but that’s about it, and as you can see these are all things I have previously photographed.

Oh, and there are also Earthworms and Millipedes again.

So, I don’t know when exactly I can expect the insects to come out again, but when they do, I’ll be ready.

[1] Rosie wrote a short song about it during the May 1 snowstorm (the tune to use should be obvious from the first line):

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
Even though it’s not!
It’s really the first of May,
There should not be snow today,
And yet, I see that that is what we’ve got!

Lovely song! And here I am in northwest Florida and although there was a little cold north of me, I had no frost this winter. Everything is still blooming. We will have a bumper crop of insects.

You could always identify those tracks in the snow!

    Dang, dude! Move south! 🙂

Come to think of it, moving to the South would be a good idea for you. In addition to the milder weather, think of the massive variety in the insect population! And that’s just from the ones biting you!

Well, there are two big reasons for not moving south:
    1. I’d have to change jobs. I like my job.
    2. In general, every place has its drawbacks. Here, the drawback is weather. In places like California, it is all the people. Overall, I’ll stick with the weather.
